Stephen Kamelgarn--Artist

Welcome to the Kneeland-Gothic Fine Art Photography Web Site.

My primary background is in theatrical lighting design, and through that developed a sensitivity to light and its effects. I hope this sensitivity is reflected in the photos.

I have chosen a variety of images: from my home in the Pacific Northwest to Europe. There is also a portfolio of enhanced medical images (CT, MRI)

Please feel free to browse the galleries. They change often, so please come back

These images of otters come from both the Monterey Bay Aquarium and from the Elkhorn Slough near Moss Landing California. The images from Elkhorn Slough were taken from a sea kayak
Photos taken mostly around San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City in 2012

Nature is full of surprises and there is a long precedent of using scientific images as artistic subjects. The same holds true for medical images. Just because a medical image is used for diagnosis or treatment, doesn’t mean that it can’t also be art. I took several of these black and white scans (CT and MRI), scanned them into my computer, and then proceeded to colorize, and distort the images into brightly colored abstract images. These are the results of that process.
